A Delhi court has convicted a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Bihar in a case of celebratory firing that killed a 45-year-old woman in 2018.
The MLA, Raju Kumar Singh, was convicted under Indian Penal Code Section 304 (II) and Section 30 of the Arms Act.
The court acquitted Singh's wife and two others of destruction of evidence charges.
The MLA was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and could face up to three years in prison.
The case dates back to New Year's Eve in 2018 when Singh fired gunshots in the air at his farmhouse, hitting the complainant's wife, Archana Gupta.
The police recovered a .315 calibre rifle and live cartridges from the farmhouse, and Singh and his co-accused fled the scene but were eventually arrested.
