The Congress-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) alliance is facing a crisis after the JMM decided to field candidates for both Rajya Sabha seats, despite the Congress announcing its candidate for one of the seats.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a meeting of JMM legislators in Ranchi on Friday, where it was decided that the party would field candidates for both seats.

The development comes a day after the Congress declared seven candidates for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha, including senior party functionary Pranav Jha.

The JMM's decision assumes significance as the party had earlier indicated that a collective decision on the Rajya Sabha elections would be taken on June 5.

The Congress, however, is confident that it will win both seats, citing the support of 56 legislators in the assembly.

The elections to fill 24 seats that have fallen vacant will be held on June 18.
