BJP MP Tejasvi Surya recently responded to a question about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to not hold press conferences in over a decade.

In a video clip shared on X, Surya explained that he believes press conferences are 'redundant' in the age of social media, where leaders can communicate directly with their voters.

He argued that the purpose of a press conference is to create a barrier between the leader and the people, which is no longer necessary.

However, Surya acknowledged that PM Modi communicates regularly through other means, despite not attending press conferences.

The issue of PM Modi's no-press-conference stance has been a topic of discussion recently, particularly during his visit to Oslo, Norway, in May 2026.

Indian officials have defended the decision, stating that the event was a pre-arranged joint media statement and not an open press conference.
