A heated debate erupted in the Lok Sabha on Friday between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs over the deportation of Bangla-speaking individuals to Bangladesh. TMC MP Shatabdi Roy raised the issue during the Zero Hour, citing a case of a person being deported from Odisha. She argued that language should not be a consideration for such decisions. However, her microphone was switched off after she exceeded her allocated time. In a tense exchange, Roy attempted to speak over BJP MP Jugal Kishore, leading to a confrontation. Later, she suggested that those who speak Hindi and Urdu should be sent to Pakistan, sparking a fresh uproar. BJP MP Sambit Patra countered Roy's claims, stating that Odisha has a long history of inclusivity and that Bengali-speaking people are considered brothers. He also demanded that Roy retract her statement and criticized her use of language towards the Odisha chief minister. The exchange between the two parties reflected the deep-seated tensions over issues of language, identity, and immigration in India.
