The Border Security Force (BSF) has strongly disputed claims made by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police that two suspects in the murder case of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi had entered India through the Meghalaya border. According to the BSF, there is no evidence to support these claims, and the reports are 'false, fabricated, and misleading'. In a statement, the BSF's chief in Meghalaya, Inspector General OP Upadhyay, said that despite extensive CCTV surveillance and checkpoints in Bangladesh, it is 'highly implausible' that the suspects would have been able to enter India undetected. The BSF also pointed out that earlier, Bangladeshi media reports had quoted a senior officer as saying that there was no evidence of the suspects entering India, only to be contradicted by a later statement from a lower-ranking officer. For context, Osman Hadi was a prominent student leader associated with the anti-government platform Inqilab Moncho. He was also running for election in February and was campaigning in the Dhaka-8 constituency at the time of the attack. The BSF's rejection of the Dhaka Police's claims has raised questions about the accuracy of the reports and the investigation into Hadi's murder.
