A special CBI court in Panchkula has acquitted Haryana Judicial Officer Ravneet Garg and his parents in a 2013 dowry-death case. Garg's wife, Geetanjali, was found dead with bullet injuries in Gurugram in July 2013. Initially, the case was probed by the Haryana Police but was handed over to the CBI on the family's request. The CBI charged Garg and his parents with causing Geetanjali's death for dowry demands. However, the defence counsel argued that the allegations of dowry demand and cruelty were false, and there was no evidence of discord in the marriage. The court, led by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajeev Goyal, acquitted the three accused of all charges, citing a lack of evidence. A detailed judgment is yet to be released, but the defence claims the CBI amended the charge and falsely implicated the accused.
