The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has denied any security breach after a 19-year-old student claimed to have found severe vulnerabilities in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal.
Nisarga Adhikary, a hobbyist cybersecurity researcher, claimed to have hacked the CBSE website and found loopholes in the OSM system, which he alleged could lead to full account takeover of examiner accounts.
However, the CBSE clarified that the URL seen on Adhikary's screenshots is different from the actual OSM portal's URL, and the alleged issues were found on a testing site.
The board assured that the OSM system has strong safeguards to ensure the integrity of the platform and that no security breaches have come to light.
Adhikary had claimed to have reported the vulnerabilities to CERT-In in February, but the board said it was not aware of any such report.
The CBSE introduced the OSM system for Class 12 Board examinations from 2026, which digitally scans and evaluates answer books online, eliminating tally errors and reducing manual intervention.
