The Centre has replaced the chairman and secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and initiated a probe into the procurement of services for the board's onscreen marking (OSM) system amid allegations of irregularities.
The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention and follows a series of reports highlighting concerns over the rushed rollout of the OSM system, which was used to assess Class 12 answer scripts.
CBSE chairman Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta have been transferred and replaced by senior bureaucrats Prashant Lokhande and Varun Bhardwaj, respectively.
A one-member committee headed by retired IAS officer S Radha Chauhan has been constituted to inquire into the procurement of services for the OSM system.
The committee will submit its report to the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) within a month.
The opposition Congress has termed the move as an 'eyewash' and demanded the sacking of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and an independent judicial inquiry.
