Demolition of Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi has started under the Central Vista redevelopment project. The Centre plans additional off-road parking spaces and a redesign of traffic circulation to ease congestion.

The iconic Udyog Bhawan, built between 1956 and 1968, housed ministries of commerce, industry, and micro, small and medium enterprises. It was designed by CPWD architect RI Gehlote.

The traffic management measures are part of plans to address anticipated congestion in the heart of the Capital, where seven new CCS buildings will come up in the next two years.

The government is also examining AI-based adaptive traffic signal systems for the Central Vista area, which would use traffic data from cameras and other sources to alter signal timings.
