The Congress party has urged its former alliance partner, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), to reflect on its electoral defeat and identify the true reasons behind it, rather than criticizing the Congress.
The comments from the Congress leaders assume significance following an article in the DMK's party organ, Murasoli, which ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday.
The DMK has been criticizing the Congress, alleging that the party had "backstabbed" the DMK with the blessings of Rahul Gandhi during the April 23 Tamil Nadu assembly polls.
However, the Congress leaders maintained that it was the duty of the Congress to stand by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, which remains firm on its secular ideology.
The two ministers recalled that the DMK has never shared governance or power with its alliance parties and that the TVK had given two ministerial portfolios to the Congress.
The Congress leaders warned the DMK that instead of obsessing over how to criticize the Congress party, it must completely introspect and identify the true reasons for its electoral defeat.
The DMK must accept the verdict of the people and continue its work as a proper responsible party, they said.
