A Delhi court has sent dermatologist Manish Gupta to two days' police custody as investigators look into his decade-long struggle with mental health issues.

Gupta, 50, allegedly bludgeoned his domestic worker Meena Haldar, 45, with a cricket bat before stabbing her in the neck and surrendering to police.

His family revealed that Gupta had been taking antidepressants for nearly a decade, and police are questioning his treating doctors to understand if there was a trigger or recent behavioural change.

Police said Gupta has been suffering from a mix of psychiatric disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression, for nearly two decades, with no previous history of violent behaviour.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with investigators saying Gupta had demanded Haldar's dismissal but his wife disagreed, leading to no further argument or fight.

Police are analysing CCTV footage and awaiting the post-mortem report, while Gupta's medical examination has been ordered by the court.
