In a brazen heist, five individuals, including a Delhi government employee, have been arrested for allegedly stealing 1 kg of gold from a jewellery workshop in central Delhi. The gang, inspired by the Bollywood film 'Special 26', posed as enforcement officials conducting a raid on November 27, confiscating gold worth millions before fleeing. The masterminds behind the operation, Delhi government employee Parvinder and Sandeep, a self-proclaimed Officer on Special Duty in the Madhya Pradesh government's public relations department, devised the plan after learning about the large quantities of gold handled by jewellery workshops in the Karol Bagh-Dev Nagar belt. With fake ID cards, lanyards, and police uniforms, the gang conducted the raid, seizing mobile phones of workers, wiping CCTV footage, and escaping with the gold. A 72-hour chase across Delhi-NCR and several districts of Haryana ensued, involving over 250 CCTV cameras and advanced technical surveillance. The police finally apprehended the accused, recovering 435.03 grams of stolen gold, ₹3.97 lakh in cash, three cars used in the crime, and fake ID card holders bearing 'Delhi Police' markings. The gang members allegedly divided the loot, with Sandeep selling 428 grams of gold and distributing the proceeds among the gang. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining stolen gold and arrest the absconding accused, including Akram, Suresh alias Jammal, and Naveen alias Kala.
