A 37-year-old man, Mubarik Ali alias Mubba, who had evaded arrest for nearly a year, has finally been apprehended by the Delhi Police from Haryana's Mewat region. Ali, a proclaimed offender, was wanted for his alleged involvement in multiple ATM thefts across several states, including a brazen heist in Wazirabad earlier this year. According to the police, the investigation into the Wazirabad ATM theft, where ₹29.12 lakh in cash was stolen, was transferred to the Crime Branch due to its audacious nature. Within three days of the incident, two accomplices were arrested in Haryana, who revealed that Ali had masterminded the operation from a different location. A thorough investigation led by the Crime Branch finally tracked Ali down to Maharashtra and later to Mewat, where he was intercepted while attempting to flee to Rajasthan. With a history of over 10 criminal cases, including offences related to ATM thefts, attempt to murder, and Arms Act violation, Ali's arrest is seen as a significant breakthrough in the fight against ATM thefts. Further interrogation of the accused is underway to trace additional cases and recoveries, and the police are hopeful that this arrest will bring relief to the victims of these crimes. The Delhi Police's persistence and technical surveillance played a crucial role in finally catching the mastermind behind these ATM heists.
