As Delhi grapples with severe air pollution and low visibility due to dense fog, the city's traffic police have launched a comprehensive winter safety plan to safeguard over 6,000 personnel on the roads. The initiative involves distributing high-quality air-filter masks, winter gear, and regular health check-ups to mitigate the risks associated with prolonged exposure to pollution and cold. The plan, aimed at protecting traffic personnel from the adverse effects of pollution and cold, includes the distribution of N-95 masks, winter wear, and essential gear to over 6,000 personnel. Additionally, nearly 50,000 high-quality masks have already been distributed to the staff. To enhance visibility during night and foggy conditions, fluorescent jackets have been issued to traffic personnel, and reflective fluorescent stickers are being pasted on Delhi Police barricades. The Delhi Traffic Police is also urging commuters to drive cautiously and switch on their fog lights at night to reduce the risk of accidents. The department has implemented a broader welfare and safety strategy to counter the impact of air pollution and falling temperatures during winter. This includes organizing frequent health camps at its headquarters to monitor the physical and mental well-being of personnel and provide timely medical intervention when required. The Delhi Traffic Police has also introduced additional measures such as hydration support and rotational deployment during extreme weather as part of its wider welfare plan. With Delhi's Air Quality Index frequently crossing the 400 mark in recent days, placing it in the 'severe' category, the initiative is a crucial step towards safeguarding the health and safety of traffic personnel and road users alike.
