A recent visit by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to Delhi sparked renewed speculation about a potential leadership rift in the state. However, Shivakumar has vehemently denied any political motives behind the trip, attributing it to a private wedding and preparations for a Congress rally scheduled for December 14 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Shivakumar emphasized that he was in Delhi to oversee arrangements for the rally and attend a private wedding. He rejected claims of meetings with the Congress leadership, accusing sections of the media of spreading baseless narratives. The deputy chief minister's visit coincided with weeks of speculation over an informal power-sharing understanding between him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The recent buzz is a continuation of the rumors that resurfaced weeks after the Congress government achieved the halfway mark of its five-year term. The speculation has been fueled by recent interactions between the two leaders, including back-to-back breakfast meetings at the direction of the party high command. These meetings were seen as an attempt to calm tensions before the legislature session in Belagavi on December 8. In a separate development, Home Minister G Parameshwara dismissed allegations that party national general secretary K C Venugopal held political discussions during his recent visit. Parameshwara stated that he and the chief minister did not discuss politics during Venugopal's visit, instead focusing on the contributions of reformer Narayana Guru. Meanwhile, divisions have emerged within the BJP over a proposal to move a no-confidence motion against the government. The idea has drawn interest from some OBC and Dalit legislators, who believe that internal tension in the ruling party presents an opportunity. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah downplayed the prospect, stating that the party is prepared for anything the opposition might attempt.
