Bengaluru-based author Shoba Narayan invites Karnataka's new chief minister DK Shivakumar on a vegetarian food tour of the city, highlighting its diverse regional cuisines and unique culinary identities.
From the iconic Hotel Dwaraka to the modest restaurants of Basavanagudi, Narayan takes the CM on a journey through the city's various neighbourhoods, each with its own distinct flavour profile and traditional dishes.
The tour includes stops at Basavanagudi Tiffin Room, Madappa Mudde Mess, and Sri Guru Koteeshwara Davanagere Benne Dose, where the CM can sample local specialties like idli-vada combos, ragi-mudde, and benne dose.
Narayan also takes the CM to the Northwest of the city, where they can experience the rustic, hardy cuisine of the Bayaluseeme region, featuring dishes like jolada rotti, ennegayi badanekayi, and kaalu saaru.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Goldfinch hotel's Sanadige restaurant, where the CM can enjoy a neer dosa made from a watery dough with a stew.
Narayan argues that Bengaluru's greatness as a culinary capital lies in its regional density, where residents can experience a diverse range of cuisines and flavours within the city's various neighbourhoods.
