The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted simultaneous raids at nine locations in Chhattisgarh on Monday, targeting alleged irregularities in land acquisition compensation for a crucial Bharatmala project road connecting Raipur and Visakhapatnam. This high-stakes operation is part of a money laundering investigation, with the agency acting under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In a related development, the Chhattisgarh Police have been probing the irregularities and have already made some arrests. The ED's search operations, which began on Monday, aim to uncover the extent of the alleged wrongdoing, targeting key individuals, their associates, government officials, and landowners involved in the project. The Bharatmala Pariyojana is a massive infrastructure project that aims to develop over 26,000 km of economic corridors, which will form the backbone of India's road freight network, along with the Golden Quadrilateral and North-South and East-West Corridors.
