A family of five's evening turned into a nightmare in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, when the father brutally murdered his 11-year-old twin daughters while their mother and 6-year-old son slept in the next room.
The 45-year-old father, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, slit the throats of his daughters after rendering them unconscious with sleeping pills he had mixed into their food.
Mishra, who had been struggling with depression and unemployment, had a history of erratic behavior and had even spoken about dying along with his children.
He called the police helpline number at 4:30 am to report the crime, and the motive behind the heinous act is yet to be determined.
