A Pune businessman's elaborate birthday surprise for his fiancée turned out to be his last gift to her, as police arrested her and her alleged lover for his murder.
Ketan Agarwal, 25, had spent nearly a month planning a lavish celebration for Siya Goyal's 20th birthday, which included a flower-decked luxury convertible and a romantic dinner where he proposed to her.
However, the couple's happiness was short-lived, as Agarwal died in a fall at Lohagad Fort on June 18, which was initially treated as an accidental death.
Police later discovered that Goyal and her boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, 22, had conspired to kill Agarwal and had confessed to the crime during questioning.
The investigation revealed that the pair had made an earlier attempt to kill Agarwal at the same fort on June 14, but failed.
Agarwal's father had previously expressed concerns about Goyal's behavior and had raised doubts about her relationship with Chaudhary.
The two accused have been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy and remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
