A Goa court has remanded Ajay Gupta, a self-proclaimed silent partner and investor in the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub, to seven days of police custody. Gupta, arrested in Delhi on Wednesday, was brought to Goa for questioning and is being investigated in connection with the fire that killed 25 people on December 6. The Goa police had initially sought a 10-day custody, but the court granted only seven days. Gupta maintains he is not involved in the tragedy and had no say in the club's operations, despite being a sleeping partner. His lawyer, Rohan Desai, claims that Gupta is cooperating with the investigation. The fire at the North Goa nightclub has led to the arrest of five managers and staff members, while brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who claim to be co-owners, are being held in Thailand. An Interpol Blue Corner Notice has been issued against them. The Goa police are still investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have been a major contributing factor to the high number of casualties. The incident has sparked a renewed focus on safety measures in Goa's nightlife industry, with authorities banning fireworks inside nightclubs and hotels in the region.
