Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai has raised concerns over the state government's preparedness for a possible Super El Niño event, warning of severe impacts on the state's water, agriculture, and public health.
Sardesai has called for a statewide assessment of water availability and reservoir levels, as well as contingency plans for drought-affected farmers and heat action plans.
He has also demanded measures to strengthen forest fire surveillance, ensure drinking water security, and protect fishermen and coastal communities from climate-related disruptions.
Climate models confirm a 40% chance of a Super El Niño developing, which could trigger severe droughts, floods, and heatwaves worldwide.
