Family members of Aditya Sharma, a 23-year-old sailor killed in a US strike on an oil tanker, have urged the Himachal government and Centre to repatriate his body for last rites.

Aditya was among three crew members killed in the Gulf of Oman on June 10 after the US military struck the Palau-flagged MT Settebello, accusing it of violating an American blockade.

Of the 24 Indian crewmen on board, 21 were rescued, with Aditya being the only son of his parents.

The family has questioned whether adequate attempts were made to rescue Aditya, with his uncle Sanjiv demanding an inquiry into the incident.

Sanjiv said they spent anxious hours trying to ascertain Aditya's whereabouts after receiving information that he was missing.

Aditya's family has requested Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and the central government for early repatriation of the body.
