India has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian assistance and healthcare cooperation with Afghanistan, as the two countries discuss a joint working group on health and cancer treatment facilities. Afghan Health Minister Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali visited India from December 16-21, meeting with Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh and Union Health Minister J P Nadda. During his visit, Jalali participated in the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine and held bilateral meetings with Indian health officials. A symbolic handover of cancer medicines and vaccines marked India's continued support for Afghanistan's medical needs. India has agreed to dispatch a larger consignment of medicines, vaccines, and medical equipment, including a 128-slice CT scanner, to strengthen Afghanistan's healthcare system. The two countries also discussed ongoing healthcare development projects, the establishment of a joint working group, and capacity-building programs for Afghan doctors. Jalali's delegation visited several Indian hospitals, including AIIMS, New Delhi, and the Centre of Excellence in Unani Medicine, Jamia Hamdard University. The visit aimed to gain an understanding of India's tertiary healthcare system and explore opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation in education, research, and regulation of traditional medicines. The meetings with Indian health officials and visits to healthcare facilities reflect India's continued commitment to humanitarian assistance and healthcare cooperation with Afghanistan.
