National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday to review bilateral ties and discuss progress towards normalising relations.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the BRICS NSAs' meeting in New Delhi, comes as both sides continue to work towards a stable and predictable relationship.

According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the two sides noted progress towards gradual normalisation and described the discussions as 'constructive and forward-looking'.

Doval underlined the importance of stable bilateral relations in building trust and better understanding between the two sides.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to normalise relations following a four-year military stand-off on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that had taken relations to a six-decade low.

India and China have taken several steps to normalise ties, including resuming direct flights and reviving the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to Tibet.
