India and Germany are set to sign a defence industrial cooperation roadmap during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's upcoming visit to Germany from April 21 to 23.

The discussions will focus on enhancing defence industrial collaboration, strengthening military-to-military engagements, and exploring opportunities in emerging domains such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, and drones.

The visit comes as India is finalising the ₹70,000-crore Project 75I for building next-generation conventional submarines in the country, with Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited and German yard thyssenkrupp Marine Systems set to build six advanced submarines.

The advanced submarines will come with air independent propulsion systems, increasing their underwater endurance and reducing the risk of detection.

During the visit, Singh will hold bilateral talks with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius and other senior leaders, and an “Implementing Arrangement for Cooperation in UN Peacekeeping Operations Training” is also likely to be signed.

The two countries share a strong and multifaceted strategic partnership, anchored in democratic values, rule of law, and a shared commitment to a rule-based international order.
