India's Lok Sabha is on the brink of chaos as multiple parties face the threat of splits and mergers. The Shiv Sena (UBT) is staring at a fresh split in its Lok Sabha unit, with six of its seven MPs likely to seek recognition as a separate group and eventually merge with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The move comes despite Shiv Sena (UBT) parliamentary party chief Arvind Sawant issuing a whip directing all party MPs to attend a meeting on Thursday and urging the Speaker not to recognise any breakaway faction.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing a major setback with at least 20 of its Lok Sabha MPs writing to the Speaker proposing to join the NCPI and support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
A UP minister sparked speculation of an impending split in the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) on Wednesday.
The twin developments could significantly alter the arithmetic in the Lok Sabha as the NDA seeks the numbers required to push through the proposed delimitation bill.
