Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a keynote address at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS) 2025 in New Delhi, where he emphasized India's resilience in the face of global uncertainties. Despite challenges such as financial crises and pandemics, India has emerged as a beacon of hope, with a growth rate of 8% in the second quarter of 2025, according to recent GDP figures. PM Modi highlighted the country's progress in various sectors, including its northeast, villages, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, as well as the empowerment of women and the growth of the space sector. He noted that even the smallest villages and cities are now equipped with modern systems, showcasing India's rapid development. The Prime Minister also praised the contributions of 'nari shakti' (women's power) in India's development, citing examples such as the country's space sector, which was previously under government control but is now open to the private sector. He also emphasized the significance of the direct tax system, which has been reformed to exempt incomes up to ₹12 lakh from taxation. In a veiled attack on critics who have historically linked India's growth rate to its Hindu faith, PM Modi slammed what he called 'slave mentality,' citing instances of India being referred to as the 'world's largest arms importer' due to a lack of faith in Indian-made weapons. He emphasized that India's growth is a testament to its strength and resilience, and not a result of any particular faith or ideology.
