In a significant move to strengthen people-to-people ties and boost tourism, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that his country will introduce a 30-day free e-visa for Russian tourists. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi, following their bilateral talks. The new visa policy aims to increase cultural exchanges and cooperation between India and Russia. 'We will start a free 30-day e-tourist visa and a 30-day group tourist visa,' PM Modi said, highlighting the potential for 'manpower mobility' to create new opportunities for citizens of both countries. The government also plans to launch vocational education, skilling, and training programs as part of the initiative. The move is seen as a gesture of goodwill, as PM Modi emphasized that India has always been committed to peace in relation to Ukraine. He also announced plans to increase exchanges of students, scholars, and athletes between the two nations, fostering stronger educational and sports ties. Putin's visit to India marks his first in four years, and the first since the start of the war in Ukraine. The joint press conference was held at the Hyderabad House in Delhi, where PM Modi and Putin discussed regional and global issues. The introduction of the free e-visa is expected to boost tourism and strengthen bilateral ties between India and Russia.
