Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a hub for cutting-edge maritime technologies with the establishment of India's first dedicated autonomous maritime shipyard and systems development centre. The state government has approved the proposal to set up the facility at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Nellore district, a project that will create over 750 jobs and cement the region's status as a key destination for next-generation maritime systems development. The shipyard, to be developed by Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited, will specialize in constructing and integrating unmanned and autonomous maritime platforms. This state-of-the-art facility will play a crucial role in enhancing coastal surveillance, maritime domain awareness, and offshore security, while also supporting India's push for indigenous defence technologies and maritime self-reliance. The 29.58-acre land parcel, leased from the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board, includes 7.58 acres of waterfront land and 22.00 acres of harbour land, providing direct sea access essential for shipbuilding and testing of autonomous systems. With this initiative, Andhra Pradesh is set to take a significant leap forward in its maritime and defence manufacturing ecosystem, positioning itself as a key player in the country's growing focus on autonomous technologies.
