The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a major milestone with the successful test firing of the Indian version of the US Tomahawk subsonic cruise missile from Odisha's ITR, Chandipur.
The Long Range Land Attack cruise missile (LRLACM) hit its target at a distance of 1000 km, resolving all past issues and marking a significant improvement over the failed Nirbhay cruise missile.
The missile, which can be launched from multiple platforms, has a speed of up to 0.8 Mach and a 500 kg warhead, making it a formidable weapon for hitting targets at land skimming heights.
India's successful test firing of the cruise missile comes at a time when the country is upgrading its conventional missilery with long-range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles to counter the PLA's missile capability.
