India handed over a patrol vessel and utility vehicles to the Seychelles Defence Force during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie. The equipment is expected to enhance collective security in the Indian Ocean region.

Modi arrived in Seychelles on a three-day visit, where he will participate in celebrations marking the golden jubilee of the country's independence and hold talks with Herminie to review bilateral relations.

The patrol vessel, Lespwar, was handed over as a gift for the government of Seychelles, along with ten utility vehicles, five laser radial boats, and six ambulances.

India has provided several military assets to Seychelles in the past, including patrol boats, a fast interceptor boat, and coastal surveillance radar systems.

The two sides have also signed a memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation and have held joint military exercises.
