In a bid to strengthen their strategic partnership, Indian and UAE troops will participate in a joint military exercise, Exercise Desert Cyclone - II, in Abu Dhabi from December 18-30. The 45-member Indian contingent, comprising primarily personnel from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment, will join forces with the UAE Land Forces contingent of similar strength, represented by the 53 Mechanised Infantry Battalion. The exercise aims to enhance interoperability and foster defence cooperation between the two armies through joint training in urban environments, with a focus on sub-conventional operations under a United Nations mandate. This will enable both forces to operate together in peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and stability operations. Over the next two weeks, troops from both countries will engage in a wide range of tactical drills, including fighting in built-up areas, heliborne operations, and detailed mission planning. The integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS techniques will also be carried out to conduct operations in built-up areas. This joint exercise builds on the momentum of recent high-level visits, including the Commander of the UAE Land Forces and the Commander of the UAE Presidential Guard. It underscores the deepening strategic partnership and military diplomacy between India and the UAE, reaffirming their shared commitment to regional peace, security, and stability. The exercise will further cement professional bonds between the two armies, promote mutual understanding of tactics, techniques, and procedures, and contribute to the development of interoperable capabilities. This joint effort is a significant step towards enhancing defence cooperation and deepening military-to-military engagement between the two nations.
