India has bolstered security at its Assistant High Commission office and visa centre in Bangladesh following the assassination of prominent student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The heightened security measures, implemented from Friday morning, cover the Assistant High Commission office in Upashahar, the residence of the Assistant High Commissioner, and the visa centre in Shobhanighat. Tensions have been running high in Bangladesh since Hadi's death on Thursday. A spokesperson for the Inqilab Mancha, a group linked to Hadi, announced plans to besiege the Assistant High Commission office, citing 'Indian dominance' as a major concern. Hadi, a key figure in the ousting of Bangladesh's previous government, was shot by masked gunmen on December 12 and died in Singapore on Thursday. His funeral, attended by thousands, featured anti-Indian chants, with protesters vowing to ensure justice for his killing. The Bangladesh government has faced mounting pressure to arrest those responsible for Hadi's assassination. In response, the Inqilab Mancha has issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding 'visible progress' in the case. As unrest continues to spread across Bangladesh, security forces remain on high alert to prevent any further violence or vandalism, including a recent attack on the Assistant Indian High Commissioner's residence in Chattogram. The situation remains tense, with the Indian government taking steps to safeguard its interests and personnel in the region.
