India has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing fugitives back to face trial, amid a video of liquor baron Vijay Mallya celebrating his 70th birthday in London with fellow fugitive Lalit Modi. In a press briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India is engaged in talks with several countries to repatriate individuals wanted by law. However, he acknowledged that the process is complicated due to multiple layers of legalities involved. Jaiswal's comments come a day after Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh urged for Mallya's swift return, citing the successful extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a key suspect in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The Bombay High Court had previously warned Mallya to return to India or face the consequences, as he challenges the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act. Mallya's video with Lalit Modi has sparked outrage, with both individuals appearing to mock their fugitive status. India remains committed to bringing back fugitives, including Mallya, to face trial and justice. The government is working to overcome the legal hurdles and ensure their return to the country.
