President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Shaurya Chakra award to Lieutenant Commander Suraj Prashar for his exceptional bravery during Operation Chuntawadi in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Under the operation, Prashar and fellow soldiers eliminated heavily armed terrorists in a coordinated action by security forces.

Prashar displayed courage and leadership during the operation, leading to the elimination of one A++ graded foreign terrorist and the recovery of war-like stores.

He identified and occupied a vantage position, opened aimed fire on the other terrorist, and kept his own forces apprised in real-time, resulting in the successful neutralisation of the terrorist.
