Renowned pistol shooter and India's high-performance coach Jaspal Rana died at 49 due to complications related to a heart condition. Rana had undergone a procedure to get a stent placed in his heart after experiencing chest pain during the ISSF World Cup in Munich.
Doctors at Max Hospital, Saket, said Rana arrived in a critical condition after continuing to travel despite experiencing chest pain. He had an acute heart attack that was three days old, with his heart's pumping function severely weakened and in heart failure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences, calling Rana's passing a 'profound loss to the world of Indian sports'. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Rana's contributions to Indian shooting.
