Chennai: IndiGo's operational woes continued to disrupt air travel across India, with multiple flights cancelled at Chennai Airport on Friday. According to the airport authority, IndiGo requested departure gates to hold passengers, as many travellers remained stranded in check-in and boarding areas. The airline apologised for the inconvenience and informed passengers that flights to key destinations such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad were cancelled due to operational reasons. This is part of a nationwide disruption in IndiGo's operations, with the airline facing severe staff shortages and new rules for crew members. Delhi Airport also reported that all IndiGo domestic flights departing on Friday were cancelled till midnight. Passengers at multiple airports have expressed frustration over the lack of clear communication and alternative travel options, leaving many stranded for hours without basic amenities such as food and water. IndiGo has sought temporary exemptions from certain flight duty time limitations to alleviate the situation and has assured the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that normal operations will be restored by February 10, 2026. With approximately 170-200 flights affected daily, IndiGo's cancellations have risen sharply, causing significant disruption to air travel in India.
