The Delhi High Court on Wednesday declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking increased compensation for Indigo passengers whose tickets were cancelled due to the airline's recent Flight Duty Time Limitation rollout. A bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela ruled that the concerns raised in the PIL could be addressed in an existing case. The court granted liberty to the petitioner to seek intervention in the pending petition. The PIL, filed by Centre for Accountability and Systemic Change, accused Indigo of triggering widespread concern in the aviation sector, leading to severe inconvenience for stranded passengers. The plea also sought an inquiry into the Directorate of Civil Aviation's negligence and lapses. The Delhi High Court had previously questioned the central government's response to the crisis, asking why timely action was not taken to mitigate the impact of Indigo flight cancellations. The airline has been facing backlash from both the government and passengers for cancelling hundreds of flights since December 2, citing regulatory changes.
