IndiGo Airlines has apologized to passengers stranded at airports between December 3-5. As a gesture of goodwill, the airline will offer travel vouchers worth ₹10,000, valid for 12 months. This compensation is in addition to flight ticket refunds and the ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 compensation mandated by the government. The airline has faced significant disruptions, leading to thousands of flights being cancelled or delayed. Airports were severely congested, leaving many passengers stranded. In an effort to stabilize operations, authorities have directed IndiGo to reduce winter schedule flights by 10%. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has been summoned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to provide a comprehensive report on the recent disruptions. The airline's chairman, Vikram Singh Mehta, has dismissed allegations of engineering the crisis and attempting to influence government rules. Mehta acknowledged that the airline has let its customers down and will be answerable to them, as well as the government, shareholders, and employees. However, he emphasized that some allegations are 'untrue' and do not reflect the airline's commitment to safety. The airline has taken steps to clear refunds for affected passengers and has pledged to complete the process soon. With over 100 flights cancelled on Thursday, IndiGo continues to navigate the crisis, which has entered its 10th day.
