India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has expressed optimism about the country's relationship with Europe, describing it as 'poised to grow to the next level'. In a media briefing after a meeting with European counterparts in the Weimar Triangle format, Jaishankar emphasized the need for both sides to strengthen their partnership, which he believes can bring stability to the international economy and global politics. Jaishankar, who met with his counterparts from France, Germany, and Poland, highlighted the potential for cooperation in areas such as technology, semiconductors, railways, defence, and aviation. He noted that India and the European Union have been engaged in discussions on a free trade agreement (FTA) and other initiatives. The minister's comments come against the backdrop of a push by India and the EU to deepen their partnership. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to visit India next week, followed by a visit from top European Union leaders, who will participate in the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The visit is expected to culminate in the finalization of the FTA between India and the EU. Jaishankar's remarks also touched on the need for a global discussion on the international order, with Europe being an important player in global politics. He noted that India's participation in the Weimar format talks for the first time reflects the country's deepening engagement with Europe. In the coming months, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit India to launch the India-France Year of Innovation, while the two countries will also participate in the AI Impact Summit. Jaishankar's comments reflect the growing importance of India-Europe ties, which have been strengthened in recent years through various initiatives and agreements. As the global landscape continues to evolve, both sides are looking to deepen their partnership and explore new areas of cooperation.
