Mumbai: Jay Pawar, the younger son of Sunetra Pawar and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, is likely to enter electoral politics, with the NCP considering fielding him for the upcoming legislative council polls.

The party leadership is weighing the option of nominating Jay from the Pune local authorities constituency, which the NCP has held since 2010, party insiders told Hindustan Times.

With the NCP keen on retaining the seat, Jay's candidature could provide an opportunity for him to build a grassroots connection and prove his political mettle.

Several senior NCP leaders said Jay could be fielded from the seat, citing his ability to shoulder responsibility in Pune and help fill the vacuum created after his father's death.

However, some NCP leaders expressed concerns that Jay's candidature would fan the perception that all opportunities were going to the family, following Parth Pawar's election to the Rajya Sabha last month.

The NCP is also hoping to field a candidate for the legislative council polls from the Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg local authorities constituency, currently represented by NCP leader Aniket Tatkare.
