In a heart-wrenching incident, a four-month-old infant died in a hospital in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, after being referred from a community health center. The baby's father, Dimba Chatomba, was left with no choice but to carry his son's body in a bag from the hospital to their home in Baljodi village due to the absence of an ambulance. According to officials, a free ambulance service for transporting the dead body is not available at the hospital. However, the Deputy Commissioner, Chandan Kumar, has ordered an investigation into the incident, stating that the administration could have provided an alternative solution had Chatomba approached hospital staff. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has condemned the incident, calling it 'unfortunate' and 'inhuman.' Soren expressed regret that a poor father was forced to carry his infant's body in such a manner, even 25 years after Jharkhand's formation. The incident unfolded when Chatomba took his son to a health camp in Noamundi, where health workers arranged an ambulance to send them to a community health center in Jagannathpur. After a preliminary examination, doctors referred the family to Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa, where the infant passed away during treatment. The district administration has taken cognizance of the incident and is conducting an inquiry to determine how such a situation arose. The incident highlights the need for improved healthcare infrastructure and emergency services in rural areas.
