In a swift legislative session, the Karnataka state assembly passed 12 key bills, including amendments to the rent law and land revenue act. The rent law amendment decriminalizes minor violations, imposing a fine of up to ₹2000 and/or simple imprisonment for a month for non-compliance. This change aligns with the 'Minimum Government Maximum Governance' principle, as per the Jan Vishwas Amendment of Provisions Act 2023. The focus of the session was largely on technical and administrative changes, with some contentious bills like the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Prevention Bill 2025 and the Karnataka Social Boycott Prevention Prohibition and Redressal Act 2025 being sidestepped. A significant amendment was made to the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, empowering tahsildars in Kodagu district to correct land records and align them with the current system. This move aims to address the issue of outdated records, which was inherited from the 1964 law. The Greater Bengaluru Governance Second Amendment Bill 2025 was also passed, expanding the authority's composition to include people's representatives and senior bureaucrats. This move is expected to enhance governance in the region. The legislative session concluded with a rapid passage of bills, clearing the way for implementation of these key reforms in Karnataka.
