Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, paving the way for a new leader in the state. The resignation comes amid an ongoing leadership transition in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah will continue to function as the CM until alternative arrangements are made, according to the notification. The outgoing Chief Minister had resigned on May 28, citing directions from the Congress leadership.

Speculation over a change in Karnataka's top leadership had been ongoing for days, with Siddaramaiah initially handing over his resignation to officials at Raj Bhavan. The Governor was out of Bengaluru at the time.

Siddaramaiah has expressed his desire to remain active in state politics, despite being offered a seat in the Rajya Sabha. His exit marks the end of his second term as Karnataka Chief Minister, which began after the Congress returned to power in the 2023 Assembly elections.

The decision on Karnataka's next CM will rest with the Congress leadership and the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), according to Siddaramaiah. DK Shivakumar, his deputy, has been named as his successor by sources, although there is no official confirmation.
