Telangana's ruling party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), is gearing up for a statewide agitation led by its president, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), against the neglect of irrigation projects in the state. KCR, who has been relatively quiet for nearly eight months, is set to address a series of public rallies starting in the second week of January. According to a party insider, KCR's recent meeting with senior leaders at his farmhouse outlined the party's strategy to mobilize people in support of the agitation. The party plans to organize a massive public meeting in the second week of January to highlight the alleged neglect of Telangana's water interests. Similar rallies will be held in subsequent phases in Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts. KCR's move comes amid growing signs of anti-incumbency against the Congress government in Telangana. Political analyst C R Sukumar believes that KCR's comeback into active politics is a response to internal threats, particularly from his daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who has been vocal about her opposition to the party's leadership. Sukumar suggests that Kavitha's comments could weaken BRS's grip on the Telangana narrative and create opportunities for a splinter regional formation. The BRS chief has also announced that he will attend the upcoming winter session of the state assembly, where he will review the agenda set by the ruling Congress government and decide the party's course of action. This will be the third time KCR has attended the assembly session in the last two years, and it is expected to be a crucial moment in the party's efforts to mobilize support for the agitation.
