Protests against the treatment of three Kuki men injured in a gunfight in Manipur's Kangpokpi district continued for the second day outside the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Imphal.
Protestors demanded the men be shifted out of the hospital, alleging they were injured while attacking civilians, and questioned whether similar security protection would be available to ordinary citizens traveling through sensitive areas.
However, security forces dispersed the protestors without using mob dispersal activities.
On Monday, security forces resorted to baton charge and tear gas shelling when a large mob gathered at the hospital demanding the injured be shifted outside Imphal.
The hospital authority said the men's health conditions are improving, while the hospital nurses' staff association demanded a peaceful hospital environment.
The injured men, Lunliandan Vaiphei, Genzamang Vaiphei, and Paogoulal Chongloi, were brought to the hospital on June 15 for medical treatment.
The RIMS Media Cell stated that the hospital's sole responsibility is to provide medical care to all patients, and the public is requested not to obstruct or disrupt hospital services.
The RIMS Nurses' Association expressed strong condemnation regarding the mob control activities carried out by security forces, urging the authority not to turn the hospital into a warzone.
