In a surprising move, Regi Lukose, a prominent Left sympathizer and frequent television debater, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Lukose, a former CPI(M) member, had been a vocal supporter of the Left ideology for over a decade. However, he claimed that the 'decaying ideas' of the Left are no longer beneficial for the future of Kerala. Lukose was welcomed into the BJP by state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar at the party's state headquarters. He explained that his decision was influenced by the BJP's development narrative and progress in north India, which he had witnessed firsthand. Lukose also expressed disappointment with the CPI(M)'s shift towards communal divisions, which he believes has alienated many supporters. The development comes as the BJP seeks to strengthen ties with the Christian community in Kerala, a traditional stronghold of the opposition UDF. Senior CPI(M) leader K Anilkumar denied Lukose's claim of being a party member, stating that his words do not reflect the views of the party. Lukose's defection to the BJP marks a significant shift in the Kerala politics landscape, which is set to be closely watched in the coming months.
