A newlywed couple's dream wedding celebration turned into a digital affair when their IndiGo flight was cancelled, stranding them hundreds of kilometres away from their reception venue in Hubballi, Karnataka. Medha Kshirsagar and her husband Sangama Das, both Bengaluru-based software professionals, had planned a traditional reception at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi after their wedding in Bhubaneswar on November 23. The couple had booked flights from Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru and then to Hubballi on December 2, but their travel plans were derailed due to IndiGo's nationwide flight cancellations triggered by a pilot shortage. Despite the chaos, the bride's parents took charge and carried out the rituals on behalf of the couple at the decorated venue, while the newlyweds joined the function virtually through a live video stream. This is not an isolated incident, as thousands of travellers have been affected by IndiGo's operational setbacks this week. The airline has cancelled hundreds of flights after failing to adjust to new government-mandated duty-time regulations for pilots, causing disruptions at airports in major cities. IndiGo has informed the DGCA that it expects normalcy to return only by February 10 and has requested temporary easing of crew-duty norms. The airline has admitted that the ongoing turmoil stems from misjudgment and gaps in implementing the second phase of the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). IndiGo has warned that cancellations will continue until December 8, followed by reduced flight capacity thereafter. The couple's digital wedding reception is a testament to the challenges faced by air passengers during this period.
