Saayoni Ghosh, a key leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Jadavpur MP, has reportedly joined the rebel camp, dealing a significant blow to former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ghosh, a prominent voice against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a staunch supporter of Mamata Banerjee during the recent West Bengal elections, has not confirmed the move, but sources close to the matter suggest she may have already sided with the rebels.
This development is the latest in a series of setbacks for Mamata Banerjee, who has been facing challenges from within her party since the state election loss.
Ghosh, a former Bengali actor, rose to prominence during the election campaigns and became associated with the TMC due to her fiery speeches targeting the BJP and her strong public support for Mamata Banerjee.
This is not the first time Ghosh has been in the news for her comments, as she was earlier criticized by the BJP for allegedly insulting Sikh and Punjabi communities.
Meanwhile, other TMC leaders, including Sushmita Dev and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, have also resigned from their positions, further weakening Mamata Banerjee's grip on the party.
