West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly condemned the brutal treatment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in BJP-ruled states. The incident in Odisha's Sambalpur, where a 25-year-old migrant worker, Juyel Rana, was beaten to death over suspicion of being a Bangladeshi, has sparked outrage. According to officials, a group of migrant workers from West Bengal's Murshidabad were allegedly thrashed by a local group in Odisha, with two managing to escape. Rana's death has sent shockwaves across the state, with his family and community left reeling. Banerjee expressed her deepest condolences to Rana's family and promised all possible support to the bereaved family. She also condemned the perpetrators of the incident, stating that speaking the Bengali language cannot be a crime. A West Bengal police team has been dispatched to Odisha to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served. As the situation unfolds, the Odisha government remains tight-lipped, with no official statement issued so far. The BJP has also not commented on the incident, leaving many to question their stance on the treatment of migrant workers in their ruled states.
